Lots to Celebrate on Toontown Rewritten's 9th Anniversary!

Nine years... nine years!? Toontown Online was a game that was supposed to disappear forever. And yet here we are, nine years later, still running around in this virtual world. Chatting with friends in Toontown Central. Saving trapped shopkeepers from the Sellbot Vice President. Taking down way too many four-story Cog Buildings for Lil Oldman.
If the news from nine years ago today was to be believed, all of those things we just talked about should be a foggy, distant memory kept alive only by fuzzy videos that still remain online. But the Toontown community didn't let that happen. The community banded together, and after a post on the MMO Central Forums, Toontown Rewritten was born. Toontown is still alive and well. There's only one thing to do looking back on such an achievement. On September 19th 2022, we'll be celebrating Toontown Rewritten's ninth anniversary in-game with a carnival like no other -- Toontown's Cartoonival!
September 19th should have been a day of sadness throughout town — but not anymore! Toontown Rewritten has been going strong for nine years now, and for entirely free at that. There’s so much to celebrate, and the Cartoonival embodies all that there is to celebrate!
What is Toontown's Cartoonival?
The Cartoonival has a little bit of everything! From classic carnival prizes to Toontown's famous antics, there's no party quite like it. And don't forget Riggy Marole, the host with the most and self-proclaimed Emcee that keeps the whole event running!
What happens during the Cartoonival?
On September 19th, the Cartoonival kicks off with a series of blog posts by our very own Riggy Marole to keep you entertained and in the Toontown spirit. Here's a little synopsis of everything that the celebration has to offer:
- Over in Acorn Acres, you can enter the Cartoonival Event Grounds to join the fun.
- Enter the silliest area in Toontown with a giant Merry-go-Round, (Jelly) Bean Bags, and plenty of activities to keep you occupied while chatting up with friends.
- A grand fireworks spectacular lights up the sky every three hours with a nostalgic Toontown melody, and if you come a bit early you'll be able to catch the sunset!
- Earn "Cartoonival Tokens" to buy special items, accessories, and even two unique Toon colors -- only available once per year!
- Meet the fleet of Token Takers, noted by their world-famous mustaches. You can’t miss them!
- Stop by and talk to Riggy Marole, the wackiest rabbit in town who acts as the emcee extraordinaire of Toontown's Cartoonival!
- Work together to dunk Cleff, everyone’s favorite pie-loving duck from Minnie's Melodyland, in the Duck Tank! The more you dunk the duck, the more prizes you earn!
What is there to celebrate?
To say this has been one of Toontown's biggest years would be an understatement. We shipped the largest single expansion ever with the release of the Sellbot Task Force Expansion back in December, and since then we've gotten several more additions out the door! From pretty significant rebalances to pronouns and feedback to finales, Toontown has seen some major changes this year. And we're by no means done yet!
Every September we take time to "Rewrite" the past with this event. What used to be the saddest day in Toontown's history now marks the beginning of Toontown's greatest celebration. Instead of a loss, we can remember a revival!
Toontown Rewritten will continue on into its tenth anniversary next year and beyond. Toontown will always be here for EVERYONE to play, no matter who you are or where you are. That's what makes Toontown special, and that's why we celebrate.
We hope that you're excited to celebrate Toontown Rewritten's anniversary with us, and we sincerely thank you all so much for helping us make Toontown what it is today. Are YOU ready to celebrate? Are YOU ready to party Toontown style? Really, there's only one question that matters:

you know what i wish. those disney npcs mickey, donald, goofy, minnie and chip and dale in there playgrounds. donald in donalds dock used to be in the boat with the wheel. i would love to see those npcs come back. also can not wait for Toontown Rewritten's 9th anniversary!

9? That’s the same number of Back Nines you had to do to get max Stock Options in TTO. It’s also the same number of holes a Back Nine has. The number of Back Nines one needed to do for max Stock Options has been significantly decreased this year. How old is Toontown? 19! This probably doesn’t mean much, but we can only dream of a bossbot takeover. ;)

this game has always been one that made me smile and laugh, and i'm so glad it's been around this long. i've met some wonderful people through this game and i've made so many memories i'll remember for the rest of my life. i'm so glad it's still getting updates and the community still has so much love and care for this little corner of the internet. it warms my heart. thank you for all you've done to preserve this silly little world, and best of luck for what's to come. happy 9 years, and here's to many more! <3

I've been playing Toontown since 2008 and I remember the day the game shut down, I cried my eyes out, but many years later I discovered TTR and immediately joined as fast as I could! To say thank you for all that you guys have done and continue to do would be an understatement. Never let the original spirit die, TTR, let's go for the big 10! I cannot wait!!!

I only played original Toontown for a little bit. I couldn't even read back then, neither did I know English. I had a break, then got back to it and it suddenly closed. Thank you for bringing it back, so I can enjoy it again. I hope it stays for many years!

I remember playing TTR when it opened for all, I teared up and was overjoyed that Toontown was back. Happy 9 years pal. Oh and is this the year we are able to buy the token taker mustache? Please?

I remember playing as a kid, begging my parents for one more month subscription. Now like 15-20 years later I still find myself drawn back to it every few months. An all around great time, with an amazing community. The quirkiness never stops growing. Thank you for all the work! Can’t wait for the 20th anniversary!

So much has been added lately, and some things have changed, but Toontown's still the most Toontastic game ever! I can't wait to see what's in store for this year's Cartoonival!!!

I'm kind of shy in real life, and have some trouble talking to people sometimes. But TTR has been a wonderful outlet for me to explore my funny side, and make some great friends, and be a bit more outgoing! So thanks Toontown Rewritten :)

Nine years?! No way! I joined TTR during its open beta, only to take a hiatus of many years from the game. And I come back to a world of wonders, like the game I knew yet so utterly different, even being online the very moment TTR went down to release Last Laff... It's crazy, with everything that the game has to demand, that it's all volunteer work without any profit. That is incredible. In addition, I'm honored to be friends with several of the staff members helping to keep this game alive, like Rush and Sir Lappington; I've even met Tom Fluffentail! Incredible people, the entire staff, through everything that's happened over the years. This will be my very first Cartoonival, and I can't wait to see everything that happens; who knows, maybe I'll get to meet Flippy or Sir Max! I've got a Toon whose color needs to be changed to Cartoonival Blue, for one... and maybe get my main Toon run over by a train...

TTR came out right after I moved in elementary school and I hadn't made any friends in the real world yet, but I had so so many online friends I met through Toontown. Thank you so much for putting so much work into keeping this community alive :) I really really hope it stays around for a long long time!

I'm so excited!! Thank you for everything everyone does to help keep this running first and foremost. But quite a few people have noticed that cloud on the map pop up and we can't help but wonder if you're bringing back some of the OG code that got removed before the release. I'm an adult that plays (and has a whole disney parks obsession), so seeing some original code come back under that cloud would be downright amazing tbh. Can't wait to see what y'all have in store this year!!!! Thank you for everything <3

I've been playing Toontown since Toontown online for over 19 years. I can't believe it's been almost twenty years! I began at it's inception, when I was in my early twenties, and continued to it's end and to the revival that is Toontown Rewritten! It's so exciting that Toontown is not only still alive and thriving, but new things are added too. From operation Crash Cashbot HQ to Sellbot field offices! I can't wait to see what else is in store! I noticed spots like the sellbot hideout in sellbot HQ in the other Boss HQs... Could we be in store for field offices from the other Cogs?!?!? I can't even imagine how crazy cool a Lawbot Field Office, a Cashbot Field Office, or a Bossbot Field Office would be! So many amazing things in Toontown Rewritten! I'd love to see another operating crash ___(any boss HQ) come about line the operation Crash Cashbot HQ event! That was amazing! Your events are spectacular! I love how you keep the nostalgic quality and animation going while also creating new additions to the game. So glad you've all decided to keep Toontown alive and free so everyone can afford to play! Thank you all and bless your hearts always.

I can't believe this game has been out for that long! Toontown (both online and rewritten) will always live in my heart. I'm so grateful to have grown up with it and the community, it's crazy how much it's impacted our lives even to this day. Toons rule!

Wow... It really is amazing thinking about how far we've come since the original Toontown's closure. I started playing this game in 2009. As time has passed, and I've gotten older, events have changed, my interests have developed... it's now 2022, and I've been playing this game for 13 years now. There's definitely something powerful about this game. Something that brings us together. That no matter how much we've changed, this game will grow with us and give us that same feeling we've had since we've started playing. All I can say is... thank you. I remember when the original toontown shutdown I literally cried, I was like 6 years old, and I never even did the story, would just fight cogs haha. In 2016 I learned that theres a remake called Toontown Rewritten. I was super excited to play and I did and it was a lot of fun. I completed the game finally just a few months ago, after 6 years of playing since I have been on and off for a while. This game really did change me in the over 10 years I played it with the original toontown.
I remember when the original toontown shutdown I literally cried, I was like 6 years old, and I never even did the story, would just fight cogs haha. In 2016 I learned that theres a remake called Toontown Rewritten. I was super excited to play and I did and it was a lot of fun. I've got a lot of fond memories of Toontown. I remember back when I was just a little deer, I competed in the 2019 Laff-O-lympics and got a bronze medal! I've also gotten to participate in Crash Cashbot HQ, gotten a red nose from Holly Daze, got a cool Toonfest (Cartoonival) color, and so much more!!! Thank you Toontown for all of these fun opportunities, and I hope you have a toontastic birthday!!!

Happy anniversary Toontown Rewritten! And I know that I'm toon enough. I may not have been there to see the Doomsday election, but I arrived a few weeks before open beta and I have seen the end of the game so far. To nine good years and hopefully many more to come!

To the ones who restored this game and brought it back to life, you will always be so much more than appreciated.. Reading a lot of these comments and about how the game has created so many memories for people is truly awesome to see because I feel completely mutual. Anyways.. If you do see this, THANK YOU.

Honestly it's so incredibly hard to believe that it's been nearly nine years since the shutdown and here we are today. I remember like it was yesterday when my friends told me on Facebook that it was closing. Of course, I said they were bluffing only to discover later when I got home from work that day that they were in fact not bluffing. I made a (rather poorly edited) video close to the shutdown and that was that. I'm grateful for Toontown and Toontown Rewritten existing as it's allowed to me to meet so many incredibly people to whom I still speak to this day. I hope it stays alive for as long as possible as we all want it to do so.

When TTR first came out, I honestly feared it could only keep toontown alive for a few more years but nine years later here we still are with more stuff still being added to this day. This game is almost 20 years old and I've been playing since 2006 when I was just 5-6 years old. This game has been my first MMO and the only one I still make sure to ALWAYS come back to no matter what may be happening IRL. Thank you Joey and everyone for working so hard for almost a decade to keep this game still alive and very strong, and with no payment no less! That's no small feat to put so much work in for the sake of others without any monetary compensation for your efforts. Thanks for everything and all I can say is bless your cartoon-loving hearts.
